FAQ

Why should I choose Bushfire Survival Plans?
We are the first and only Australian company that offers a one on one approach to bushfire survival planning. We help you tailor your plan and take all the guess work out of formulating the best way to defend you property. We have fought in every major campaign fire since Ash Wednesday and we only use the most up to date information available. We are experienced fire fighting specialists that are committed to your safety.
Are you qualified?

We only employ members of the fire industry that have at a minimum three years hands on experience. A lot of our staff are senior fire fighting volunteers that have spent many years fighting fires. The directors have well over 60 combined years within the fire industry and have won numerous awards and commendations.

More can be found out about our qualifications on the about us page.

Where do you get your information from?

The directors already train/teach for the CFA in community safety and fire prevention; including bushfire survival. We have been trained by and work for one of the best fire agencies in the world. A lot of what we teach also comes directly from CSIRO research, Australia’s premier scientific laboratory. We are continually updating our information as it becomes available either through the Royal Commission or the CSIRO/CFA.

It needs to be mentioned that neither CFA nor CSIRO are in anyway affiliated with Bushfire Survival Plans. CFA does not offer a personalised service when constructing individual fire plans but instead a group based delivery using generalised information

How much does it cost?
We charge $250 per plan prior to the fire season. Our fees increase to $300 from November 15th 2009 due to the start of fire season. Please allow 3-4 hours for the consultation and plan formation. We also charge a nominal rate for travel distances over 75 km from the consultant's home.
Do you offer a guarantee that my house won't burn down?
There are no guarantees when it comes to Mother Nature and unfortunately we cannot promise you will be risk free and that is why we ask you to sign a legal release form. What we do guarantee is that if you do have a properly implemented fire plan, your house and personal safety will be much greater than if you did not have a plan at all.
Is it difficult to enact?
This all depends on the 'defendable space' around your home. The session itself is not difficult but to correctly implement your bushfire safety plan, there may be some manual labour required. Our staff are very helpful and wont overload you with jargon. Remember we are certified Workplace trainers.
What is covered in the meeting?

An experienced fire industry professional will meet at your home to discuss and frame the best plan for you and your family.  A section of the topics covered after plan formulation would include; personal safety, the individual roles of family members, property protection, fire behavior and fire stage checklists, car entrapment and early stage "go" plans.

Remember, we not giving you a generic plan - we are tailoring the above to your personal situation and environment.

Do you offer a group discount?
Yes. If you would like to get together with your neighbours we can certainly accommodate a group discount. As there are a number of hours involved in formulating the plans, we are only limited to two (or three if you are all neighbours) households per day.
